Alternative access if the touchscreen isn't right for you

To access the iPad using alternative methods such as a switch or head-tracking or joystick there are a number of third-party products available.  It is possible to control what’s on the screen without touching the device. It is also possible to use settings to vary how the screen responds. The iPads from Zyteq are supplied in an industrial case tested to military grade (MIL-STD-810G ) and there are extra options available if the iPad needs to be mounted. If the touchscreen presents difficulties alternative access may provide a more efficient way to control the iPad. Zyteq specialises in alternative access and we have a selected range of options available. We select the most reliable products from those available and we have been supplying these accessories for many years. We receive technical support from the manufacturer’s, we warrant the products, deal with any repairs and provide resources and training materials.
Examples of alternative access options for the iPad include:

Protect the iPad and damage coverage 

Our bundles include a waterproof, industrial case tested to military standard MIL-STD-810G. Consumer devices such as the iPad are not designed to be waterproof, nor dropproof. The protective cases provide enhanced protection against drops, dust and water but do not replace manufacturers warranty. The device can be mounted while in the protective case so that protection is continuous. 

Extra Support and Specialised Training

Implementing an iPad which has specialised access, specialised apps and individual setups and environments can call for extra help.  Our bundles include our Zyteq iPad Premium Plan for support and training.  The remote sessions included will be with one of our experienced AT consultants who will be familiar with combining all the elements to assist the user and the support people to successful implementation.  The sessions can be used for or extra help getting started with specialised access and/or the apps we support. This includes learning more about your specialised accessories or accessing devices purchased from Zyteq, iOS accessibility features of the iPad and to set the specialised communication apps we support: Grid for iPad or Avaz.

A Rugged Case to protect the iPad.

• An industrial case meeting military grade testing [MIL-STD-810G] with in-built screen protector and supplied with shoulder strap and back-hand strap. This type of rugged case is designed to withstand the bumps and knocks of day-to-day use. They are also designed to protect from rain, humidity, sand, dust, temperature, vibration and a limited number of drops. Zyteq iPad Premium Plan for Support and Training:

• A Premium Support Session is included. We combine our specialist experience and support, and access and mounting products to offer something more.  Zyteq has NDIS registration and is very familiar with the NDIS processes to deliver devices and support and training. If you need an iPad at the lowest price with standard extras, then please go ahead and purchase online retail or from high-street stores.  Purchasing from Zyteq may mean you are paying for elements that are not required.  There are numerous mainstream outlets for purchase of iPads if you need a standard package at the lowest possible price. All of the hardware elements we combine in our bundles are available for purchase separately and if you are equipped to “do-it-yourself” then you you may be able to put together all you need at the lowest price by doing some homework and shopping around. If this sounds like you, then it is unlikely you need our bundles.

Our bundles are designed for those who prefer a complete system with support for specialised implementation. They are most likely to suit people who need a rugged, well-protected device, as well as with extra support for alternative access or AAC apps: Grid for iPad or Avaz.

Zyteq's iPad Premium Plan

• Zyteq iPad Premium Plan (3 months): With your iPad you receive a Zyteq iPad Premium Plan which provides online/remote support sessions.  These are sessions you book in advance to spend dedicated time with a Zyteq consultant to receive extra assistance, training and support for your iPad.  You receive 3 sessions each a maximum of 45 minutes. You can use the 3 sessions quickly or space the out over the 3 months. The plan expires at 3 sessions or 3 months which ever occurs first. 

Apple Gift Cards

• These are supplied as physical gift cards or virtual gift cards to the stated value. Some bundles include gift cards aimed at purchase of AAC apps such as Grid for iPad, however they can be used flexibly.

Grid for Ipad Clinical License

• With the purchase of the iPad Clinical Assessment Bundle we offer the inclusion of a license for Grid for iPad.  There is a procedure to obtain this which requires verification that it is for use by a clinician for assessment purposes.

Can I buy an iPad on its own from Zyteq? I see only bundles.

We have designed bundles specifically to meet the needs of our customers. The Zyteq Complete iPad Bundles are designed for people who need more than is available from online retail or from high-street stores. They include our specialised support and specialised access devices.  Our bundles are designed for those who prefer a complete system with support for specialised implementation. If you need an iPad on its own or with standard extras then please go ahead and purchase online retail or from high-street stores.  Purchasing from Zyteq may mean you are paying for elements that are not required.  There are numerous mainstream outlets for purchase of iPads if you need a standard package or are seeking the lowest possible price.

How can I purchase an iPad on its own from an NDIS registered company?

You may be looking to buy from Zyteq because we are NDIS registered.  We are NDIS registered and happy to help with NDIS Participant's purchases.  However if you are not requiring our specialised bundles then another option may be needed.  We do hear about resellers of Apple iPad who are NDIS registered.  Unfortunately we are not able to keep up with these to direct you or to provide a specific referral. Your NDIS planner or LAC maybe able to assist.

Can I hire or trial the iPad?

A number of our products including the iPad, are not available in our traditional trial and hire program. There are a number of factors that influence which devices are available to trial.

The purchase price of the device does not support the costs involved in purchasing and maintaining trial equipment and the administration costs associated with the trial program. As you can imagine it requires a significant investment from companies to provide trial equipment. Sometimes the purchase price of device does not support these additional costs without significantly increasing the costs of a piece of equipment. Generally this would make the purchase price nonviable to both funding agencies and customers.

If we are not the sole supplier of a piece of equipment in Australia it is also difficult to provide equipment for trial as we would rely on sales of the device to support the trial program. What can happen where we are not the sole supplier, after a trial or hire, it can be found that purchase can be made from other retailers with lower purchase prices. Often these retailers are able to offer lower prices because they do not offer trials.

Please know that most of the access devices can be hired for trial individually if you need to try those, for example QUHA Zono 2.

Can I request an iPad model that is not currently in a bundle?

Initially we are offering the model of iPad we feel covers the majority of application. The choice of WI-Fi or WI-FI with cellular are the variations.

If you want to ask about inclusion of a different model please complete our Expression of Interest form and we will collate these at intervals to monitor demand.

We will not be in a position to offer customised bundles at this stage.
